Managing Partner | Physical Therapist

Jim Achatz has dedicated nearly three decades to helping people move better, recover from injury, and stay active throughout every stage of life. As Managing Partner at Munger Physical Therapy, he combines his passion for patient care with leadership, mentoring a talented team of clinicians while fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.

Jim earned his Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Findlay and has over 28 years of clinical experience. He is a Credentialed McKenzie Practitioner (Cert. MDT), Certified Mulligan Practitioner (CMP), and is certified in Dry Needling. As one of Michigan’s longest-practicing physical therapists performing dry needling, he has incorporated this advanced technique into comprehensive treatment plans for many years.

His clinical expertise focuses on orthopedic care, spine rehabilitation, sports injuries, biomechanics, custom orthotics, and dry needling. Throughout his career, Jim has helped thousands of patients recover from neck, back, and spine conditions through conservative treatment, often allowing them to avoid unnecessary procedures or surgery. By combining detailed movement analysis, hands-on therapy, individualized exercise programs, and evidence-based treatment techniques, he works to restore efficient movement and long-term function.

Jim believes people don’t seek physical therapy simply to relieve pain—they come to regain the ability to live the life they love. His approach centers on identifying the true source of dysfunction, educating patients about their condition, and providing the tools they need to build strength, confidence, and resilience. He views physical therapists as primary care specialists for musculoskeletal conditions and is committed to helping patients achieve lasting results through thoughtful, individualized care.

What Jim enjoys most about Munger Physical Therapy is working alongside a dedicated team that strives for excellence every day. He finds great fulfillment in mentoring fellow clinicians, helping them grow professionally while building a practice that strengthens both the team and the community they serve.

Outside the clinic, Jim enjoys spending time with his wife, Sara, and daughter, Evelyn. He also enjoys rucking, classic cars, Jeeps, and proudly admits to being a lifelong Star Wars enthusiast. His favorite quote reflects his philosophy on both life and leadership:

“Learn the rules like a professional, so you can break them like an artist.” — Pablo Picasso
