Markus Munger

PT, Cred. MDT

Markus Munger is the founder of Munger Physical Therapy, which he opened in 2008, and brings more than 37 years of experience in orthopedic physical therapy. Known for his hands-on, movement-based approach, Markus is passionate about helping people feel better, move better, and stay active. He takes pride in evaluating how the body works as a whole and addressing the underlying causes of pain and dysfunction—not just the symptoms.

Markus earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Michigan–Flint in 1985 and became credentialed in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) through the McKenzie Institute in 1998. His clinical focus includes orthopedic spine and extremity care, biomechanics, and both custom and over-the-counter orthotic management. He is also trained in John Barnes Myofascial Release and has extensive experience treating movement dysfunctions in orthopedic settings.

Markus believes effective physical therapy starts with listening. He values building strong relationships with his patients, understanding their goals, and working collaboratively to create individualized treatment plans. His approach is both hands-on and education-based, empowering patients to better understand their bodies and feel confident in their recovery.

His interest in physical therapy was shaped early on through a love of sports and working with people, and later solidified while volunteering at Hurley Hospital in Flint. Watching physical therapists help patients rebuild strength, relearn how to walk, and regain independence—particularly those recovering from Guillain-Barré syndrome—showed him just how powerful and life-changing physical therapy can be. Throughout his career, Markus has continued to expand his knowledge through advanced training and continuing education with leaders in the field, including Brian Mulligan, Gary Gray, David Butler, Richard Jackson, and John Barnes.

Outside the clinic, Markus has been married to his wife Julie for 38 years, and family plays a central role in his life. He enjoys hiking, boating, staying active, and spending time with his children and eight grandchildren.

His favorite quote reflects his lifelong commitment to learning and preparation: “In the field of observation, chance favors only the prepared mind.”
